CHARACTER & GROWTH
Character Statement
Harborside has taught me that it takes character to be successful and truly happy in everyday life. Out of all the character traits I identify most with leadership. I strive to be a leader and pave the way for others by living my life as an example through my actions and attitude. As a leader I actively involve myself in my classes and interact with everyone around me. My strengths through leadership connect me with others and give me a passion for making action-planned ideas come to life. I have received every character award and the ‘Mores Ex Magna’ award. I believe it’s important for leaders to have tenacity in all that they do since a bad attitude is contagious and failure is inevitable. Failure is the best way to learn and that’s definitely a lesson I’ll take with me the rest of my life. It takes respect and cooperation to be successful in leadership as well. Humor and integrity are no exception.
A great leader displays strong character in both the good and the bad times. I’ve learned that the best leader knows when to lead from the front of the line, but also when to lead from the back. The 10 80 10 rule has been tool I've used time and time again. 10 percent can either inspire or destroy the other 90. The top 10 percent has to remember they're guiding the rest of the group into the glory and the guts. As a leader I have to be willing to take the praise as well as the fall for my actions and those I'm leading.
You get out of life what you put into it. In everything I've done at Harborside I feel as if that rings true. It's a lesson each person must learn for themselves but becomes an endless choice we all must make. I want to choose joy, passion, and dedication everyday so that I overflow with those qualities in every area of my life.

Academic Growth Reflection
I've always had the same 'I need to be the best I can be' attitude when it comes to my academics. For me, A's and B's (in math) were the standard and that has been a consistent pattern on my transcript. I've found that no matter how hard I try my brain isn't wired for math, but with a little bit of extra effort and a lot of patience, I can still be successful. I have learned a lot by revising and correcting my errors in many classes (especially math). Failure is the best teacher. I can't say that enough to myself. I have learned where my strengths and weaknesses are in different subjects areas and know how to plan accordingly. Sometimes that means going the extra mile in certain classes and working on just understanding the concepts in others. I've never wanted to do anything less than my best and I believe this is something that shines through in my personality as well as my grades. Not accepting failure and letting it drive and motivate me to succeed has resulted in some of my greatest accomplishments. I wouldn't be nearly as far as I am today without the great teachers I've had supporting me. I can't thank them enough for all they do and their dedication to investing in students like me.
